Pep Guardiola claimed there is no pressure on Erling Haaland to score more goals after the Norwegian’s double sank Young Boys on Wednesday pvp
Haaland struck twice in the second half as the holders claimed a hard-fought 3-1 win over the Swiss side in their Champions League Group G encounter on the artificial surface at Bern’s Wankdorf Stadium pvp
The game had been in the balance after Meschack Elia had cancelled out Switzerland international Manuel Akanji’s opener with a superb strike pvp
Haaland’s goals were his first in six Champions League games while his effort against Brighton on Saturday ended a three-game scoreless run – relative barren spells for a player who plundered 52 in total last season pvp
Guardiola said: “There is the impression after last season that he has to score seven goals every single game pvp
That is impossible pvp
“But he is scoring a lot of goals and if people want him to fail because he doesn’t score 50 goals it doesn’t matter pvp
He is always there pvp
“The second goal was really good and he had other chances pvp
The important thing is to create them pvp
“Maybe in the right moment of the season he will be there, pvp better than now, but he has already scored a lot of goals and we are really pleased pvp
“I’ve told him many times I don’t judge him for scoring goals, although I know he wants to score goals pvp
He has the desire to improve and I don’t have doubts about that pvp
”City’s victory, sealed with a Haaland penalty and a clever late finish, was their third in succession and took them a step closer to the knockout stages pvp
They could reach the last-16 for an 11th consecutive season with a follow-up win over the same opposition at the Etihad Stadium in a fortnight pvp
“The result was good and in general it was a really good performance,” said Guardiola, whose side had 26 attempts on goal pvp
“We could have scored more goals but is the important thing is to create the chances pvp
”Guardiola added that Phil Foden did not play because of a “small problem” while Julian Alvarez, who had a goal disallowed after coming off the bench, was not able to play the full game pvp
Young Boys coach Raphael Wicky felt his side gave a good account of themselves pvp
He said: “That courage and passion, we can be proud of what the team delivered, but you need a perfect game against a team like this pvp
We couldn’t do it pvp
“Perfect means taking your chances and not conceding from set-pieces pvp
We’re disappointed with the result, but we can be proud of the team’s performance pvp

England captain Jos Buttler took his share of the blame for a historically bad defeat against South Africa, accepting he made a mistake by fielding first in the oppressive heat and humidity of Mumbai pvp
Things could hardly have gone worse for the defending champions, whose World Cup campaign is rapidly disappearing over the cliff edge after three losses in four, with the Proteas running away with a 229-run win pvp
That was England’s heaviest ever defeat by run margin, while South Africa’s score of 399 for seven was a second undesired record pvp
The bowling was chaotic and expensive, the team selection brave but unsuccessful and the batting hopelessly underpowered by comparison to what came before it pvp
But all of it stemmed from Buttler’s decision to send the opposition in under fiercely exacting conditions, with the temperature peaking at 36 degrees and exacerbated by high humidity pvp
“I think you always reflect after games and question your decisions,” Buttler said pvp
“With hindsight, with the physicality of that innings, potentially batting first would have been a pvp better decision pvp
It’s a decision I took at the time pvp
I thought it was the right one and I still believe if we were chasing 340, 350, we would have done really well in those conditions pvp
“Physically it was a really demanding innings and, like I said, it makes you question maybe in those kind of conditions whether batting first may have been the right call at the toss pvp
”Buttler has had to front up after a hat-trick of unimpressive outings so far, with a nine-wicket hammering by New Zealand and a shock defeat at the hands of unfancied Afghanistan already on the ledger pvp
On each occasion he has aimed for an unemotional assessment but accepts England are now almost out of wriggle room, an awkward place to be with almost a month of travelling left and five group matches remaining pvp
“It certainly leaves us in a tough position pvp
There’s no room for error from here on in,” he acknowledged pvp
“It’s going to be incredibly difficult pvp
We haven’t left ourselves any margin from this point in pvp
But we’ll keep the belief pvp
We’ll sit down and go again pvp
That’s all you can do in this situation pvp
“I think it’s obvious that we’re not performing to our best pvp
It’s my job as captain, along with the rest of the team, to work out how we can get back to playing that brand of cricket, playing to our potential and getting back to our best pvp
“It certainly won’t be anyone giving up or having those kind of thoughts pvp
We’ll just have to dust ourselves down and stick our chests out and go again pvp
”Heinrich Klaasen celebrated an outstanding 109 in just 67 balls for South Africa and was also floored on several occasions by the same exacting circumstances which made it hard for England’s bowlers pvp
“I had to dig really, really deep there pvp
I didn’t have any energy left,” he said pvp
“My partner Marco (Jansen) played a big part of that pvp
He told me that he’s got me and that I’m not allowed to walk off the field if I don’t score 100 pvp
“It was like just breathing in hot air pvp
Every time you try to run it’s just sapping more and more energy and then at the end of the day your body just doesn’t want to work with you anymore pvp
It was just like almost running in a sauna for the whole innings pvp
“But you’ve got to dig deep for your country as well, I’ve worked my whole life for it, so it’s a great moment pvp
